Herrin is home to 12,501 residents and named after the first permanent settler and Baptist preacher, Isaac Herring, and his future son-in-law, David Herrin. It is a coal and railroad town located in southern Illinois and five United States Presidents (Truman, Nixon, Kennedy, Reagan, and Ford) have campaigned there. In 2015, the mayors of Herrin and Cuggiono, Italy, officially declared their cities as “sister cities”.
