Harrisburg is the county seat of Saline County and home to 9,017 residents. It is known as the Gateway to the Shawnee National Forest. This area is known for its wildlife, fishing camping, hiking and boating opportunities. The Saline County Area Historical Museum is an attraction that includes: a three-story pauper home, a one room school building, log cabin, and a beautiful church. Southeastern Illinois College is located just east of Harrisburg with John A. Logan located west of Harrisburg.
