Brazil was a stopping point for the thousands of people trekking west as a part of covered wagon trains. Now we’re home to Great Dane Trailers and the attractive Forest Park Golf Course, designed by golf course designer Pete Dye. Famous citizens include the 1980’s pop singer and songwriter Henry Lee Summers and gold medalist Olympian Ivan Fuqua, who ran the 4×400 mile relay with Jesse Owens in 1932.
The One-Hundred Steps Cemetery, located outside of town, has an unusual legend. “It is said that the ghost of an undertaker will show you a vision of your death if you make it to the top at midnight by counting and stepping on broken and sunken stairs. If you fail to count the same number of steps on your way down, the vision will come true. If you walk up the side of the hill rather than the steps, a phantom hand will push you to the ground.”
