November Newsletter
November marks National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, a cause that’s incredibly meaningful to us at The Villas of Holly Brook and Reflections Memory Care. Did you know that nearly 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s today? By 2050, this number is projected to reach 13 million. As the leading cause of dementia, this disease affects countless families, and we are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of those who face it.
This month, our communities are stepping up in exciting and heartfelt ways to honor Alzheimer’s Awareness. We’ve got inspiring initiatives planned throughout November, bringing residents, families, and staff together in support of this important cause.
Here’s what we have planned:
Our communities have some spook-tacular events brewing for Halloween! So get ready to mark your calendars because you won’t want to miss it!
Here’s what we have planned:
Savoy will be hosting their monthly seminar “Donuts and Dementia” to focus on bringing educational awareness to the community on dementia. They have designed it to be an intimate setting with open discussion with our presenters and attendees. It occurs on the 2nd Wednesday of each month with various expert guest speakers that will present on a topic of their choice! They also have dementia friendly activities available during this time, so caregivers/family can bring their loved ones that have dementia.
This November, our Bradenton 14th community is excited to celebrate Alzheimer’s Awareness Month with a special cookbook featuring cherished recipes from our memory care residents! We’re hoping to get these cookbooks printed and sold as a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association. Even more exciting, our dietary department will bring these recipes to life by offering them during meals throughout the month. It’s a delicious way to honor our residents and support a meaningful cause!
Danville is showing support by wearing purple every Friday throughout November. They are also raising funds by having members of their crochet club make and sell crocheted “Forget Me Not” flower key chains! Staff members can also wear jeans on Fridays if they pay $1 towards Alzheimer’s Awareness! What a great way to get the community involved for a cause!
Washington hosted a presentation for residents and their families on November 1st from Vitas Hospice. They educated the community and explained Hospice procedures specifically pertaining to Alzheimer’s Awareness.
Bellevue is hosting a special “Share A Story” event in support of those affected by Alzheimer’s Disease. They will have guests sharing personal experiences in an attempt to foster understanding, empathy, and connection within the community.
Monticello is encouraging their residents and team members to wear teal and purple on Fridays all month long in honor of Alzheimer’s Awareness.
